300 YEARS OF QUAKERS IN QUAKERTOWN,  PENNSYLVANIA

2020 0414

URGENT :  OUTREACH CARE , a group which helps the homeless in the Quakertown area is in desperate need of funds.  Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.  They are a 501(c)3 group, so your gift would be tax deductible .
This group was started  by several ladies from the Quakertown Food Pantry because some clients were asking for help, saying they were living in their cars.  Donna Berger, from Richland Friends Monthly Meeting , can personally vouch for this group, as she helped start it.
Please make checks payable to:    “Outreach Care”    and send them to:   P.O. BOX  164 , Quakertown, PA.   18951
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, for any and all help you are able to give.

2020 0901 From our Clerk

As Clerk, I wish to clarify the current status of Meeting for Worship, Adult First Day School, and the Meeting for Business. In the current situation each of these Meeting gatherings is primarily using Zoom and we welcome each of you to join with us via video and/or voice.  We are finding that we are able to have a viable community as we continue forward in the COVID era. There is a small group of Friends who have been regularly using the Meetinghouse for Worship, and since their numbers are small, they are able to maintain the social distancing that is essential in these times. These Friends will welcome any additional members who may feel comfortable with worshipping at the Meetinghouse and willing to observe the necessary precautions of social distancing and mask wearing. There is a Sprint Group investigating how we may effectively connect the Meetinghouse to a virtual meeting platform into the future as we are finding that Zoom has opened possibilities that we had not previously considered. So, I encourage Friends to try the Zoom format and join with us as we gather in sharing and Worship.

MESSAGE FROM CARE AND WORSHIP REGARDING MASK WEARING AND SOCIAL DISTANCING IN THE MEETINGHOUSE
Dear Friends,
The Care and Worship Committee of Richland Meeting was tasked by Meeting for Business on May 9 with establishing guidelines for returning to worship in the meetinghouse.  According to the new CDC guidelines, updated on 5/13/21, those who are fully vaccinated (having received the final shot plus a wait of two weeks) can participate in indoor and outdoor activities without wearing a mask or physical distancing.  Those who are not vaccinated, must continue to wear masks and engage in distancing of 6 feet.

C&W discussed whether the CDC guidelines are appropriate at this time for Richland Meeting.  We corresponded by email and then on 5/16 we held a called meeting via Zoom, for the express purpose of discussing guidelines for Friends coming to the meetinghouse to worship.  While many Friends are comfortable following the CDC guidelines, i.e. with going unmasked and being with others who are also not wearing masks, we have heard from some Friends who are uneasy with them.  After careful, thoughtful discussion, held in the Light, we have set the following guidelines for Meeting for Worship.  These guidelines will be reviewed often and changed as needed.

  • Everyone is asked to wear a mask when entering, leaving and walking around in the meetinghouse.
  • Those Friends who are fully vaccinated may remove their masks when in their seats.
  • Those who are not fully vaccinated, are asked to keep their masks on at all times.
  • Social distancing will continue for everyone when seated.  The benches are so marked.
  • For those Friends who wish to be in the MH, but are not comfortable being near those who are unmasked, we ask that the benches on the library side of the MH be reserved for them.

Given that we have Friends who travel or who prefer ZOOM, we will continue to employ the ZOOM technology for Meeting for Worship, for Contemporary Quaker Concerns, for yoga, and for at least some committee meetings.
In peace and love,
The Care and Worship Committee
